Politicalog - Fighting the Spin

Politics is the art of looking for trouble, finding it whether it exists or not, diagnosing it incorrectly, and applying the wrong remedy. (Ernest Benn)

New Labour. New Democracy.

Mr Prescott, who is currently standing in for Tony Blair, said his message to Bakri Mohammed was: "Enjoy your holiday - make it a long one."

He added: "At the moment he has the right to come in and out. That is the circumstances at present and we have to change situations in this country by law.

"It's a democracy, not a dictatorship, for God's sake."
He missed out "yet". Remember that this is New Labour Democracy(tm).

The kind of democratic government that:
  • Prohibits peaceful protest outside Parliament.
  • Has used Anti-Terrorism Laws to prevent citizens making lawful protests.
  • Holds prisoners indefinitely without trial, charges or explanation.
  • Aspires to restrict trial by jury (twice).
  • Wishes to spy on all of its citizens internet activity and phone calls.
  • Wants to add satellite tracking devices to all of our cars.
  • Wants to enforce compulsory ID cards.
I bet you're glad you don't live in a dictatorship, eh?
