Politicalog - Fighting the Spin

Politics is the art of looking for trouble, finding it whether it exists or not, diagnosing it incorrectly, and applying the wrong remedy. (Ernest Benn)

I order you to be a better parent!

Blair calls for better parenting
Bad parenting, and the anti-social behaviour it generates, is the focus of Prime Minister Tony Blair's first post-holiday speech.

Mr Blair is proposing extending measures set up to combat anti-social behaviour, such as using parenting contracts and parenting orders more.

He says bad parenting is not just a private matter for families, and that the state should intervene earlier.
Parenting Contracts? Parenting Orders? The state should intervene?

Bad parenting is a problem. However, it is not the job of the state to tell parents how to parent. It is the job of the state to keep the law of the land and punish those who break said laws.

We have put up with decades of liberalism, trying to understand the motives of offenders, searching for root causes amongst the social infrastucture, blaming inner city poverty, disadvantaged youth, unemployment, blah blah blah blah blah.

How about this for a radical idea:

Arrest the little buggers, prosecute them, punish them.

When people realise that they are accountable for their actions, then Mr Bliar might get his "Culture of Respect".
